We design Thermoelectric generators (TEG) power generators for large and small applications. Semi- conductor material that uses the Seebeck effect to produce power. The above unit uses a sterno to produce 4-6 watts of power @ 12 VDC. Enough power to recharge a mobile phone, or operate a radio.
We expect our new designed thermoelectric power generators (TEG), to operate with an industry leading 7 - 8% efficiency. Our goal with R&D is to increase that to 10%.
An efficiency unheard of in the industry. The first off prototype assembly is ready and was tested in February 2009. The assembly will eventually be manufactured on automated equipment. These will be the first Thermo Electric assembly to be manufactured using full automation. The first assemblies are very high power modules in the 100 to 200 amp power range. The cost to produce these assemblies should be lower than present modules in large quantities with greater power output ability. Our goal is to supply industrial facilities and Car Manufactures with turn key Thermo Electric Power Generators (TEG) systems to reclaim valuable waste heat and convert it directly into electric power, which until now would never have been consider. All Thermoelectric Power Generators (TEG) systems today work on low single digit efficiencies. We are investigating with further refinement to optimize the alloy material to allow for higher hot side exposure in the 260 to 290C range allowing for greater efficiencies and high power outputs.
Below is a Thermoelectric Power Generator (TEG) unit that produces 20 watts of power at 14 volts. The power generator uses water to cool the cold side and propane to heat the hot side. The TEG also comes with a high efficiency bonded heat sink and fan [ powered by the Thermoelectric Power Generator TEG ] when water is not available. The Thermoelectric Power Generator (TEG) is scalable from 200 to 500 watts. Efficiency is 3 - 5% depending on configuration and cooling method!
We have 30 watt TEG's ( Thermoelectric Power Generator) custom made per application for purchase. Thermoelectric power generators are still very expensive to produce . What we are attempting to do is manufacture stock thermo electric power generators to bring the costs down to a reasonable level.

This is a water to water design we did for a client at a camping lodge. He's heating a glycol loop with a wood stove for the hot side and cooling the cold side with water from his lake.
Yield is ~25 watts 12 VDC @ Delta T of 100 Celsius.
Below is an extrusion which we carry in stock. The length are variable depending on design parameters. The surfaces are RA-63 ground flat . The width is 90 mm enough to accommodate up to 2 standard modules. Below that is a hypothetical example of a 200 watt design, based on hot and cold side specification.

Above would be an example of a water to water thermoelectric power generator . There are 4 batteries of modules . Each Modules or battery has eight separate modules for a total of 32 modules. If cold side water
was at 15 -20 C and hot side water was at 120 C -140 C potential output from this configuration using the
TEG2-07125HTSS would be in the range of 180 to 200 watts continuously.
Maximum temperature hot side 180-190 degrees C for our TEG2 modules
and 260C (recommended) for our TEG1 modules.
Our TEG generators will produce 22-30 watts @ 13-14 V with a 140 -150 Degree Delta T. The units are similar to the above which requires water on the cold side for cooling @ 20-25 degrees C. If water is not used, a bonded heat sink with a fan will allow for cooling, Note: Generating Power output of the TEG will be lower with the fan heat sink assembly as Delta T will be less

We are in the process of designing off the self TEG power generation devices for purchase. Cost is always a factor. To make them more affordable we will be offering standard Thermo Electric Power TEG Generators in 20 watts @ 12-14VDC (max.). Either water or air cooled. These will use the
Seebeck Effect to produce power !

Adjacent is a 45-50 watt liquid to liquid TEG based on a Delta T of 110-120 C. Max hot side temperature is 190 C. Hot liquid is passed via the center sink and cold water is passed via both outside sinks.
Belleville washers are used to assemble the sinks and modules to the correct compression rate. Six screws are used with Bellville washers . Tubing is 1/8" NPT. Modules leads are left lose to allow for the client to hook up any power configuration required. Thermo electric power generation is a maintenance free way to generate power. As long as there is a heat source and a cold source power is continuously produced.
Unlike a solar panel rated at 100 watts which, my produce only 60% of the rated power output because of sunshine and weather impairment. A thermo electric power generator will produce it rated output as long as the delta T remains the same, 24 hrs a day 365 days a year using the Seebeck Effect.

to work with . Figure of merits are high giving us hope that we can automate our manufacturing process and bring costs down to a competitive level.
At present we have two types of TEG modules available:
TEG1: Series Thermoelectric modules
High temperature with maximum hot side temperature of 260C (500F) intermittent up to 280C (536F) and max cold side temperature
of 180C (356F).

 Our new Powder Metallurgy process if successful, will increase efficiency 20-30% over standard modules, together with modules specifically designed for high density power generation we expect thermo electric modules that will be not only more efficient but be economical enough in volume to have mass commercial applications. So far we are very encouraged by the test results. We are expecting to finalize patented TEG design by January 2009. If the new process is successful we will entertain any companies interested in licensing our technology to contact us for more information. At present we have successfully designed new Thermo Electric elements and have tested them with great success. We are now working on the conductor contacts. If successful the complete couple can be produced in four steps. The elements can be configured into any size power cell required by our customers. Our standard elements are 150 to 200 amp which is unheard of in the industry.

Thermoelectric power module TEG1-12610-5.1 is designed and manufactured using technology that allows for converting heat directly into electricity. These modules are constructed of Bismuth-Tellurium (Bi-Te) based thermoelectric semiconductor material.
The modules are constructed with the ability to operate at temperatures up to 260°C (500°F) continuously and intermittently up to 280°C (536°F) heat source. Although it is **advised to regulate the TEG to temperatures not above 260°C (500°F).
The module will generate DC current as long as there is a temperature difference (DeltaT) across the module. As the difference becomes larger, greater amounts of DC current will be produced.

The following specifications are based on hot side temperature of 230°C and cold side at 50°C
Open circuit voltage: 8.6 volts
Internal resistance: 3 ohms
Match load output current: 1.4 amps
Match load output power: 5.9 watts
Heat flow across the module: Approx. 140 watts
Heat flow density: 8.8 watts/cm 2
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Before applying a heat load.
Always makes sure that the cold side is active. The cold side of the TEG cannot go above 180°C. The construction of the TEG uses two methods of bonding. The hot side uses aluminum to bond the elements while the cold side elements, use (SnAg) 3% silver solder rated at 220°C.
Foot note: At 27°C the Module has an AC resistance of 1.3 to 1.8 Ohms measured @ 1000 Hz
** Temperatures above 300 C will cause premature failure of TEG over extended time.
